General

Entries will be accepted from residents of the Commonwealth of Australia and its Territories and from APS member's resident overseas.
Unless otherwise specified, permission to reproduce entries in the DVD and catalogue for publicity and distribution purposes will be assumed but the author retains the copyright to the images.
Entrants who receive a placing or award also agree to supply the organizers with a large 300dpi file to produce a print for exhibition purposes only with the author retaining the copyright of the image.
Each entrant will receive a report and details of acceptance or awards. The report and catalogue as forwarded will be in spreadsheet and/or PDF format to the email address supplied on the entry form.
There are four (4) sections:
Section A - Open
Section C - Creative
Section N - Nature
Section J - Photojournalism
No Image shall be entered in more than one section of the exhibition.
No information regarding the entrant's identity may be displayed as part of any entered image. Any entry in breach of this rule will be excluded from the judging.
An image accepted in a previous ADPA may not be entered in the same or a different section of a subsequent ADPA.
All Images should have been taken by the Entrant.
Images must have a photographic origin and entrants must hold the copyright for the images.
Entries and entrant details can only be accepted electronically via the entry form on this website.
A maximum of FOUR IMAGES may be submitted in each section.

File Names

The first two characters of the filename should indicate the image number and the section.

For example, images entered in Section A - Open will be:

A1~~.jpg, A2~~.jpg, A3~~.jpg etc.

Images entered in Section C - Creative will be:

C1~~.jpg, C2~~.jpg, C3~~.jpg etc

Images entered in Section N - Nature will be :

N1~~.jpg , N2~~.jpg , N3~~.jpg etc

Images entered in Section J - Photojournalism will be :

J1~~.jpg, J2~~.jpg, J3~~.jpg etc
Each filename must consist of the image number and section entered, as described above; followed by your four digit postcode; the first 3 letters of your first name; and the first 3 letters of your surname.

For example, John Smith submitted 2 images in Section A - Open. He has a postcode of 2468. Therefore the file name of his first image is:
A12468johsmi.jpg

John's second image in Section A Open is named:

A22468johsmi.jpg.

John also entered into Section C - Creative. The file name of that image is:

C12468johsmi.jpg
The filename must not have more than 12 characters plus the .jpg extension (a total of 16 characters). Do not include any other information in the filename or on the image.

Format

The maximum horizontal dimension is 1024 pixels and the maximum vertical dimension is 768 pixels.
Each image file should be in the sRGB JPEG-format for IBM-PC and a maximum of 500 kilobytes in file size.
MAGES LARGER THAN 1024 PIXELS – 768 PIXELS AND 500 KILOBYTES IN FILE SIZE WILL BE REJECTED BY THE UPLOAD SYSTEM.
For judging purposes images will be displayed exactly as submitted and as such the image should be uploaded in the correct orientation. Organizers will not alter, resize or rotate images. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure uploaded images and accompanying data are correct. Images and their accompanying entry details which do not meet the entry criteria may be rejected for judging.

Colour Profiles

It must be assumed that the images will be viewed on sRGB displays, and thus images should be tagged with the sRGB profile.

Definitions

Open: Any subject that is treated pictorially, embodying the elements of good design, arrangement or composition, which reflects the personal interpretation of the photographer.
Creative: "Creative" covers photographs that display a novel effect because of an unusual combination of objects and/or viewpoint. They are images that have been modified during or after exposure. The image must have a photographic base with the original work being exposed by the entrant.
Nature: Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs. Photographs of animals that are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint as well as cultivated plants are ineligible. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks adapting, adapting to an environment modified by humans, or naturals forces, hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it. The original image must have been taken by the photographer, whatever the photographic medium used. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene. After satisfying the above requirements , every effort should be made to ensure the highest level of artistic skills in all nature photographs.
Photojournalism: Story telling photographs such as are seen in the news media and periodicals, which may include documentary contemporary life, illustrative, spot news or human interest. In the interests of credibility, contrived situations or photographic manipulations that alter the truth are not acceptable. The story telling value of the photograph shall be weighed more than the pictorial quality.
